To apply for CPTT’s
PGCE course you need to:
- satisfy the DfES requirement to be able to read effectively
and be able to communicate clearly and accurately in spoken and
written Standard English. We ask candidates whose first language
is not English to contact us to make arrangements to demonstrate
proficiency in this requirement
- have attained at least a grade C in the GCSE examination (or
equivalent) in Mathematics, English, and Science (Science is required
for all entrants including those born before 01/09/79)
- meet the Secretary of State's requirements for physical and
mental fitness to teach
- have not previously been excluded from teaching or working with
children
- declare on application any criminal background
- possess the personal, intellectual and presentation qualities
suitable for teaching
- hold a degree of a United Kingdom University of Higher Education
Institution with degree awarding powers, or a degree of the CNAA,
or a qualification recognised to be equivalent to a UK or CNAA
degree
- have a minimum of two weeks UK mainstream school based experience
of working with groups of primary aged children within the last two years
- gain an excellent academic reference from a main tutor of the
most recent University attended (or current employer if you left
University more than five years ago)
- gain an excellent reference from a school (based on your work
with children) in which you have conducted at least two weeks
work experience
When assessing applications various other factors will be taken
into account such as presentation, spelling and sentence formation
within the application form and personal statement. We welcome any
additional references which are relevant to your application.
